„Pocket PC Thoughts has an interesting discussion going on about this story. Some are skeptical, some are optimistic, but there seems to be a lot of sincere interest in getting that rat's nest of cables out from behind the desk.“

„Ultrawideband might push out Bluetooth physical layer : As I've predicted in various forms, if UWB proves itself, the radio part of Bluetooth could disappear, while Bluetooth's top-level protocols remain. The IEEE 802.15 working group on Personal Area Networking had made great progress with 802.15.1 by approving a subset of Bluetooth's spec with the Bluetooth SIG's involvement. The 802.15.2 task group had several months ago worked out a co-existence plan for living in the same place as Wi-Fi-like networks (and an FCC decision reducing the number of channels that a frequency hopping standard needed to use will make that even easier).“http://wifinetnews.com/archives/ cat_unclassified.html#003004 - Cached

„2003/12/31 - Some Microsoft IE Digital Certificates Near Expiration - Esecurityplanet The digital certificate for Internet Explorer's Java 2 Runtime Environment has expired, while several more are set to lapse January 7. Digital certificates from vendors like VeriSign let online users verify that they're dealing with real companies or persons. They also can secure all communications to and from the Web server where they're installed, via public key encryption.“http://cnscenter.future.co.kr/main/security-news/news/ 2003-12.html - Cached
„Most of the readings have questions listed after them. These questions are meant to provoke thought during reading and to prepare you for our classdiscussions. You will not hand in answers to the questions, but youshould be prepared to discuss answers if called upon in class (many studentsfind it helpful to prepare notes on the readings and questions prior to eachclass & refer to these when we discuss the topics). You'll notice thatmany readings are very recent (less than a year old). This gives our classa currency impossible to achieve through a textbook. Inevitably theremay be updates regarding some players & technologies, however the reasonsome older articles are kept is that they offer highly relevant materialrelated to class topics. When relevant, updated information on firms& technologies will be provided in lecture or via the optional WiG readings.“http://www2.bc.edu/~gallaugh/ecreadings.html - Cached
„Om Malik writes that Narad Networks co-founder Dev Gupta's new company NewLANS is working on a way to develop "Multi Gigabit data rate solution for wireless Gigabit to the Desktop (GTTD) which operates in 56+ GHz bands." One of the key drivers of this effort is the fact that the FCC recently opened up the spectrum that Gupta and others are working with as they attempt to develop a standard that can overcome security and quality of service problems that plague the current generation of Wi-Fi products. "The idea is to develop a standard which is secure at all layers and can deliver at least 2 gigabits per second to your desktop," Gupta says. NewLANS appears to be thinking primarily about targeting the enterprise market right now, and it will be a while before we see this kind of technology in the home market, but it is certainly another exciting example of the tremendous advances being made in wireless.“http://www.metro-mesh.com/hometech/archives/ 2003_11.html - Cached
„The impression that UWB is going to deal Bluetooth the final blowwas intensified this week in meetings in Dallas, at which majormanufacturers -- among them Intel and Sony -- were consideringwhich technology of those submitted to them by leading wirelesscommunication companies to settle on as the new standard tocompete, and possibly knock out, Bluetooth. One technology hascaught everyone's eye -- UWB. WPANs create wireless connectionsin the home over short distances, which allow for synchronizationamong PDAs, computers, television sets, cable TV box, etc.“http://www.stargeek.com/item/132080.html - Cached
