  „6c. PC Building - Still fiddling in my spare time building up some computers for friends and family always trying to find the best deal possible - but its always fun to build up my own PC when funds allow but now its PC, PDA, iBook ;) So much hardware, so little money ;)“

Some slightly related:

UFies.org: November 2003 Archives

  „I moved the spare partition in from the first array to put in as the 3rd and it seemed to go in ok, but as it was reconstructing something kicked it out and now we had 1/3 going, which as anyone who knows about RAID5 knows, can't really happen. Things were still running, and "ls" was still showing files, but there were I/O errors when I tried to copy files around (in a desparate attempt to save data in case something happened). So I resigned myself to the fact that I was going to have to go in and fix things from the console.“

ticking away dot org: July 2002 Archives

  „Having finally decided to take the plunge and upgrade our PC at home, I fitted the old CD-ROM and floppy drives into the new case, along with the usual suspects (including a P4 1.7G, a paltry 256 Mb RAM and a nice 80Gb HDD if you are curious), all purchased from Best Computers , which I can highly recommend and booted everything up with the XP Pro CD in the drive, only to have operating system not found-type error messages after the POST completed. Tried booting up with a floppy disk and had the same result. Scratching my head, I triple-checked all the connections and tried again several times until, as a matter of trial and error, I replaced the floppy drive with a spare and suddenly I could boot from the floppy drive.“

Simps-on log :: February 2004

  „the office with a spare cable was locked so i put this off so i could borrow one from english. the pc in english was an easy fix, but then whilst they had me they asked if another, archaic pc, could also be connected to the printer. a mouse ball had gone awol so i decided to hit base and come back.“
