The Simputer
[Archived in Entry, Linux Pda]
Taran on 2004/01/10:
„Someone on the TTLUG mailing list had asked for a low priced GNU/Linux PDA, and the Simputer immediately came to mind. I honestly don't think it's talked about enough, especially in areas outside of India. I forget exactly how I came across the Simputer , but it's stuck in my mind for one reason alone - the potential of such a system.“

„In the comments on my post about whether Michael Crichton is a science fiction writer, Ray Girvan mentioned H G Wells' The War of the Worlds. Coincidentally, I've just spent half an hour inspecting a terrific collection of covers from more than a hundred editions of the novel over the last century or so.“http://soreeyes.org/archives/ 2002_11.html#000051 - Cached

„tappity tapMSNBC have a story about a new device being developed in India which is nick-named a Simputer. The handheld device is aimed at third-world countries to give people more access to computing devices, even the illiterate. It does this by providing interfaces based on sight, touch and sound.“http://babblogue.com/blog/archives/ archive-05202001-05262001.html - Cached
„Since thisone, apart from laptops, also covers PDA and mobile telephone configuration topics - which presumably made it a lot longer, Werner would like to rename his document to be the "Linux Mobile Guide". Since these are big changes and since we are, after all, on the high of a re-styling wave, Tabatha subsequently suggested to give this new addition to our Guidescollection a thorough review . Werner agreed , so Tabatha is looking for a volunteer now.“http://www.tldp.org/ldpwn/20031125.html - Cached
„For seven years, I've marvelled at the sheer volume of usefulness that Palm has been able to pack into this little PDA. Back in the day, when my schedule was much more hectic and changeable than it is now, I mostly just wanted to get rid of the awkward limitations of my bulky Day Runner . The Palm filled the bill in spades, but the thing that kept me hooked was that people were writing applications for the device that turned it into the electronic equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife.“http://www.stumax.com/archives/ cat_computers_gadgets.html#000167 - Cached
