The death of Pocket PC
[Archived in Entry, Pocket Pc Palm]
Ian Betteridge on 2003/10/08:
„I've been a Pocket PC user for quite a while, but I have to completely agree with Jeff Kirvin's column on how Palm is leaping ahead of Microsoft in terms of innovation on its platform. There's currently no innovation going...“

Some slightly related:
„Jeff Kirvin posted an article this week that is generating quite a bit of discussion. It is titled Little Orphan Pocket PC and talks about his take on the future of the Pocket PC and the apparent lack of Microsoft support and enthusiasm for the platform. Now that the excitable evangelist Beth Goza has been transferred to another department there just doesn't seem to be that fire for Pocket PCs.“http://www.blarg.net/~palmsolo/2003/.../ jeff-kirvin-posted-article-this-week.html - Cached
„As I've had to tell several Pocket PC users since my last planning column, there is no Pocket PC alternative to Slap, a great note-taking/brainstorming application. And for the three years I used a Pocket PC, I never found a financial application that helped me live within my means like Quik Budget does on the Palm. I've also found that HotSync manager 4.1 is far more reliable than ActiveSync 3.71, and my data syncs flawlessly on the Palm, without the duplicates (or more troubling, missing records) that often plagued my Pocket PC.“http://www.writingonyourpalm.net/ column040119.htm - Cached
„The HTML can be read unconverted in Pocket Internet Explorer, and it synchronizes to the device the instant I save it, since the Pocket PC keeps itself in synchronization with the PC constantly while it's in the cradle. Frequently I'd save stuff to read on my Clié, only to find out later that I'd either forgotten to convert the articles to a Palm-readable format or I'd forgotten to sync them to the Clié before leaving my PC. With a Pocket PC and ActiveSync, this never happens.“http://www.writingonyourpalm.net/ column011001.htm - Cached
„As someone who is fascinated by mobile technology, PDAs, Tablet PCs, wireless technologies, or a combination of all of these, you are probably very familiar with the people who attended this year's event. There were folks from Writing On Your Palm (Jeff Kirvin), Devbuzz.com (Derek Mitchell), FierceWireless.com (Steve Wellman), The Gadgeteer (Judie Hughes), Geek.com (Joel Evans), Gizmodo.com (Pete Rojas), InfoSync (Jørgen Sundgot), PDABuzz (Dave Johnson), PDABlast , PocketPCThoughts (Jason and Ashley Dunn), and more that I didn't get to write down! Eric Levine was there from Club Pocket PC, Microsoft's official "club" for Pocket PC owners, Wes Salmon (formerly of PDABuzz, now a Microsoftie and the man from www.wessalmon.com ) and many more were on hand starting Thursday night.“http://www.pdantic.com/blog/2002/10/ mbius-redmond-2002-update-overview.htm - Cached

„Both use 144MHz ARM CPUs from Texas Instruments (the only difference being that the Tungsten T's OMAP1510 CPU also includes an audio DSP that no one seems to use) and both units sport 16MB of RAM, Palm OS 5 and a Secure Digital expansion slot. I never really played with the Tungsten T, being more focused on the Microsoft side of the camp at the time. Let's face it; if you don't have a Bluetooth cell phone or Bluetooth in your PC, the Tungsten T isn't all that compelling over the cheaper Sony Clié NX-60.“http://www.writingonyourpalm.net/ column030505.htm - Cached
„As many of you know, Handspring was founded by Jeff Hawkins and Donna Dubinsky, the same team that founded Palm itself. They left in 1998 when it seemed 3COM would never spin Palm off into a separate company, and have since gone on to create the Visor, considered by many to be a better Palm than a Palm. Handspring offers more capable devices than Palm at nearly every price point, and recently released the Visor Edge, a sleek, ultra-slim model that directly competes with the Palm Vx, Palm's best-selling model.“http://www.writingonyourpalm.net/ column010402.htm - Cached
„What they didn't take into account is that the artwork included some of palmOne's rumored upcoming hardware. It's commonly though that the PDAs displayed in these ad photos are the upcoming high-end Tungsten T3 and the entry-level business-class Tungsten E (although the later looks much like the Zire 71.) Bluehand is also featuring a new Palm-branded 1.3MP SDIO digital camera with a rotatable lens."“http://palmaddicts.blogspot.com/ 2003_09_11_palmaddicts_archive.html - Cached
