DoCoMo and MPEG-4 and QuickTime (oh my?)

  „I have a comment though, on your different MPEG-4 *flavors*: as for as I know, M4IF does not specify anything, it's just a forum to promote the use of MPEG-4 and its spectrum is very large, as large as the ISO/IEC 14496 spec (very very large indeed!!)QuickTime on the other hand does not support (or support is extremely limited) MPEG-4 system streams (BIFS and OD)... If I would have to *flavor* QuickTime, I would say that QuickTime is ISMA flavored (ie uses the MPEG-4 media encoders: audio and video and uses ISMA spec for streaming MPEG-4 content).“

Beware first "MPEG-4" DVD player

  „THG’s review of the DP-500 notes that it supports the DivX “format”, which they incorrectly equate with MPEG-4. The player does support DivX-style Franken-AVIs that use MPEG-4 Video (Advanced Simple Profile) for video and MP3 for audio, but it doesn’t support MPEG-4. The DP-500 doesn’t even use DivX for their video (which makes the THG review all the more bewildering), but uses REALmagic’s 8500 hardware decoder instead.“
