Pocket PC Stagnation?

[Archived in Entry, New Pocket Pc]

mrohde on 2003/10/07:

„Last week I came across two highly interesting tidbits that lead me to believe that Pocket PC platform may be getting a bit lost in the shuffle over at Microsoft. I don't think Pocket PC is going away, but rather that Microsoft may be looking to greener pastures like their new Smartphone platform or Tablet PC platform. I'm wondering now if Pocket PC devices are being squeezed out at the MS money trough, especially if articles like The Death of the Handheld Computer are being read and believed at Microsoft Mobile headquarters.“

A Little Miscellany

„Probably the most interesting for me is the ability to log out of your user'environment' without having to quit apps (which I understand is standard on Win XP). For me, the ability to have separate work and personal logins will work really well for the way I like to work. Still, I may just let others test Panther out for a few weeks before upgrading though, to make sure there are no serious problems -- though I suspect this release ought to be a solid one.“

GearBits: Phones Archives

„Mike Rohde recently blogged some thoughts about stagnation in the Pocket PC space, especially as he compares it to the innovation going on in the Palm OS camp, and offers some links to other stories to support his ideas:“

i never knew: webtech Archives

„In the last few weeks Microsoft as dealt a couple of blows to Web Standards, first announcing IE wont be a stand alone product anymore and then that IE for the Mac is dead . Mac wise it's not a big problem, Safari is much better and version 1.0 will be in the next major version of OSX. On the Windows side it's a bit more serious, IE 6.0 isn't up to par with other modern browsers so the "we're a monopoly and we dont give a shit about browsers anymore since we've killed off everyone" decision means potential forced stagnation in web standards evolution.“
