Psionara...for now (#)

„Meanwhile, my foray back into the world of Psion computing has not been what I expected. Firstly, I found that messing around with two PDAs and two desktop companion apps proved to be too distracting and doing so led to a frustrating total loss of my phone's address book when a sync with Outlook went wrong. The evening spent trying tob convert my large Palm contacts file to a slimmer one in a format that Outlook would import (CSV) with a decent amount of success was not what I had in mind when I purchased the 5mx. Likewise, I was not prepared for how hard it was to work on a greyscale PDA after using hi-res colour screens (Clie & Palm) for the last three years.“

Yeah, I'm a Geek (#)

„It's a phone, pure and simple. (Service is available from at least four companies: AT&T, Cingular, Sprint, and soon T-Mobile.) To be clear, this is a phone that contains everything you used to buy a PDA for: Palm operating system, a QWERTY keyboard, a bright color screen, digital camera, Web browser, video and MP3 players, instant messaging, desktop-sync software, and more. But the important thing is that it has the form of a phone, not just the function. If you saw one lying on a desk, you'd immediately know what it was.“

PDA vs. Paper (#)

„I've added a portable keyboard to the PDA, making note-taking much easier for longer events. I've also been using Chapura's KeySuite to sync with Outlook and find it much better than the basic PocketMirror that came with the PDA. I particularly like being able to use more than 15 categories and the notes field breaks the 1500 character limit of the default Palm tools. Now if they would just add Journal synchronization, I would be all set.“

Online Learning - Grab bag (#)

„Learning movesFor more on the mobile scene, check out the CoLab's blog . PAN = Personal area network, which connects your phone, your PDA, your camera, your pager, your desktop, etc., keeping them all in sync. Instead of squinting at a tiny screen, you may be looking at the equivalent of a 16" monitor a few feet away which is being beamed to your retina from a pea-sized projector imbedded in your sunglasses.“

Looking For RSS for Palm (#)

„I like to move about, change scenery, but I still have to be somewhat connected. The problem however lies in that I don't have wireless connectivity for my PDA as of yet, still too expensive for me, so I have to rely on syncing as my means of taking information with me. Which until now has never been that much of a hassle for me. Then came RSS.“

PDA perfection? (#)

„This added another factor to the mix - store numbers on the desktop computer, the phone, the pda or the laptop? Syncing between laptop and PDA worked fine, so the laptop and PDA became my repository of contact and schedule information. Most of the telephone numbers I rang I could remember, anyway.“

All I want for Xmas: an iPod for PDF files. (#)

„I tried using a Handspring Visor but as a reading device was very unsatisfactory and syncing content was butt fugly. I want personal digital assistant functionality in the way the iPod is a PDA, that is a static data storage that I then sync with my computer.“

Why did I sync so low? (#)

„Whilst I haven't yet got to the bottom of why this is happening, I managed to get the syncs nearly back to normal with some ruthless editing of entries and performing a 'PDA overwites Notes' sync to slim the entries down.“
