Is PDA dying ? (#)

„The rise of the PDA have made many investing in,as PALM , HP, M$,,... But the same tools (PDA os and software) have attracted other peapole : Mobile phones, now a classic mobile is powsered by symbian OS, Palm OS, or M$ Mobile, No ! theye have the same features ! for a lower price you'll get a PDA and a mobile Phone; I don't like evre to gather a PDA luxe with a poor Phone capabilities, butother peapole who don't understand what is a PDA do, the online magazine The Econmist is reporting the fact : Mobile Phones will erase PDA, one day we will see PALM crawling like SEGA materialized as software maker only, and maybe browken arrow !“

Back on a Palm (#)

„As I have said on previous incarnations of this page, I kept the IIIx because, in it's heyday, it was the perfect balance of form and function and the PDA to have. After a year and a quarter using an iPaq 3630 Pocket PC as my primary PDA, I have decided to sell it off and go back to a PalmOS PDA. Whilst PPC ownership has been fun and a learning experience, a recent trial return to my trusty Palm IIIx has convinced me that my future lies with with the Palm OS and not Microsoft's. My reasons for heading back are numerous but the main factors are these:“

T3 - I'll be back (on a Palm) (#)

„I haven't posted in a few days bacause I have been too busy i) being ill again and ii) playing with a new toy. It isn't quite a year yet since I moved back to a Palm OS PDA after spending 18 months on The Dark Side, using an iPaq PPC. Although the Clie T675 was a great way to easy back into life with a Palm OS PDA, a number of shortcomings and annoyances (like proprietary expansion formatshave recently prompted me to look for my next PDA. I didn't look for long.“

Words for Today: PDA Wars! (#)

„Sony's move may be late since Microsoft already has badly eroded Palm's once dominant market share in PDA sales with the Pocket PC line. Microsoft's PDA line may have been dealt a bad blow, however, by losing the two most popular Pocket PCs (Compaq Ipaq and HP Jornada) in the Compaq-HP merger, which dislodged one of the popular PDAs to avoid duplication. Another bright spot for Palm in the PDA WARs is open source .“

LawTechGuru on RSS & PDAs (#)

„Law Tech Guru has a great post on RSS Readers for Palm OS-based PDAs . He likes Hand/RSS for Palm OS . I strongly agree with this observation: "However, I often marvel how people using $500+ top-end PDAs often balk at a $15 solution if it truly is the most enabling and productive solution." Many people have PDAs, but get little use from them, and this is one of the biggest reasons for the lack of productivity.“

ZDNET biased review of PALM's Tungsten C? (#)

„As for screen quality, the reviewer makes no mention of how Sony's Clie, which is Palm-based, has long eroded any advantage that one might contend Pocket PCs once held in screen clarity. It might be surprising to some mainstream product "reviewers," but Microsoft and the platforms it supports are not always the standard by which others follow; indeed, Palm is the leader of the PDA class of devices and the gap is getting wider, not narrower.“

Palm, Microsoft in dead heat? (#)

„Analyst firm Gartner reported today that PalmSource (the software biz) and Microsoft were in a virtual tie for the top ranking in the worldwide PDA operating systems market for Q1 2004. After years of leading the pack, PalmSource saw its market share lead whither away as Microsoft and others develop operating systems for handheld devices.“

Notes from the 2004 PalmSource Developer Conference (#)

„While there's no SD or other expansion slot on the camera itself, there's a slick little SD/MMC card reader adapter that plugs into the USB port on the bottom of the phone. For those wanting their Palm OS apps in the smallest possible PDA-phone combination (possibly even the smallest Palm OS device overall), this is it.“
