Finally, a "Smart-PDA" from Apple?
Gary LaPointe on 2004/02/16:
„It looks like Apple might be finally entering the PDA market! This is a good thing since Palm OS 6 doesn't plan to support the Macintosh. The odd part of this is that even though Macintosh has a small percentage of the computer market, many of the Palm OS people...“

Tough Gadget!
Taran on 2004/01/27:
„Gadgets are getting physically smaller, lighter, and 'feature-packed'. Cell phones are probably the best example, since cell phone manufacturers want to own the PDA market. And PDA manufacturers want to own the cell phone market.“

Review: YOPY 3700 Linux PDA
Jim on 2004/01/23:
„In my last PDA column, I examined the Sharp Zaurus SL-C760 Linux PDA. No look at Linux PDAs, however, could reasonably ignore the YOPY 3700 from G.mate, one of Sharp's main competitors in the Linux PDA market. There aren't too...“

Sometimes a PDA is just a PDA...
larry on 2004/01/06:
„It seems that instead of putting every cool gadget into a PDA, manufacturers are targeting the upper end of the market. However, rather than selling a few more high end devices, a stripped down "PDA ONLY", could push everyone into the PDA market. It would be interesting to see market stats on this idea.“

Today's random Apple hate
Gregg on 2003/12/09:
„This impression that Apple is out to lunch from an open-systems perspective is enhanced by Steve Jobs publicly saying that the Tablet PC is a niche product. This is sadly ironic, given that Apple gave up the PDA market to Palm and Microsoft as a result of one of his decisions.“

scottfeldstein on 2003/10/20:
„Phones are in. The PDA market won't grow much but the market for smart cell phones with just a few key applicaitons is taking off like a rocket. The Economist and I are on the same wavelenth here, as I predicted this a while back myself. Time will tell.“

Review of "Java Development on PDAs"
tansaku on 2003/10/16:
„Chapter two was particularly interesting, focusing as it did on the different types of PDA available, comparison of prices, relative market shares, and performance specifications for different PDA/Java combinations. Although naturally this look at the current market will date most quickly, it provides an interesting insight into PDA trends in this period. Overall the book gives a strong impression of having been written by a single developer (which it has) who has a lot of hands on experience with Java on PDAs, and thus has a lot of relevant advice to give. This is exemplified in Chapter three where we are taken through a selection of open source and cheap development toolkits, as well as the process of setting these all up to get started developing on the PDA.“

Motorola picks Linux for phone of the future

„The processor is yet another ARM derivative, already a player in the PDA market. But if the partnership with the Chinese Government takes off, the OpenPDA could take over from both PocketPC and Palm.“

The Unconnected PDA's Days Are Numbered
Us on 2003/08/20:

Samsung's mobile CPU
Nakajima on 2003/07/22:
„Samsung Electronics has just made an annoucement of the world fastest mobile CPU, which a core speed of 533MHz. This may become a serious competitor to Intel's XScale and Hitachi's SH in PDA market (and possible programable phone market where TI dominates). While Sony will probably not sell their own chip (used for new clie), Samsung will probably agressively sell it....“

Merry Palm
Dave on 2003/06/04:
„It’s a sad sign of the implosion of the PDA market. I never much cared for HandSpring’s boxy designs, but as the first Palm clone, I thought their presence in the market was a good sign of its health. And their absence, now, is the reverse.“

Words for Today: PDA Wars!
rodd on 2002/10/08:
„Sony's move may be late since Microsoft already has badly eroded Palm's once dominant market share in PDA sales with the Pocket PC line. Microsoft's PDA line may have been dealt a bad blow, however, by losing the two most popular Pocket PCs (Compaq Ipaq and HP Jornada) in the Compaq-HP merger, which dislodged one of the popular PDAs to avoid duplication. Another bright spot for Palm in the PDA WARs is open source .“
