[Byrne's MarketView] Were they planning this all along?: palmOne, which you may remember was the original Palm, is now buying back the Palm brand name from their former spinoff, PalmSource. Palm, as an entity, has spent its entire existence trying to figure out how its properties should be sliced and diced: First, it was a subsidiary, then it was a spinoff (that happened to be worth more than the parent -- briefly), then, it split into two companies, and now the survivor of that transaction is buying back the assets it spun off piecemeal.
[PalmAddicts] Ship of Palm Looking for a New Captain: "Though I'm concerned, I quite honestly would like to see what Ed Colligan can do at the helm of palmOne. While Handspring faltered toward the end, they really were handed a raw deal by 3COM when they asked for a spinoff and were forced to reinvent the handheld to compete against their own company. It's been nine years since the introduction of the Palm Pilot, wouldn't it be interesting to see what the original dream team can do actually managing their own company for a change?"
[Kilo Seven] New Forum for Support at PalmOne: And, BTW, if you haven't heard, PalmSource (the independent spinoff from Palm which does the PalmOS operating system), announced today future versions of the PalmOS will run on top of the Linux core OS. This is insanely great news for Palm users and folks about to buy a Palm, as it assures the long term domination of Palm as the leading PDA system.

[News.com.com] PalmOne spends $30 million to drop 'One' | CNET News.com: Nagel's severance package is as lucrative as his hefty compensation package, which the company used to lure him away from his job at AT&T in 2001. Under the terms of his employment letter, Nagel received a starting salary of $620,000, a $200,000 hiring bonus, a Palm stock grant and the option to buy a significant portion of the operating system business.
[Tamspalm.blogspot.com] Tam Hanna's Palm OS Blog: November 2004: PalmOne has announced that each Treo 650 buyer is eligible for one(1) free 128Mb SD Card. This card should help reduce the memory loss from flash memory segmentation-PalmONE announces that it is about 30%, but practically, it can be way more, if the individual chunks are much smaller than 512 bytes. Even though 128MB may not be that muich wehn you lok at it today, this is definitely a step in the right direction. In times whwre Palm's arrogance knew no limits, users were left alone with problems like cases falling apart(IIIc), power buttons not working(V series),..
