So here is the scoop: In patent US 6906701, PalmOne describes a method of interacting with the user through illuminatable hardware buttons of a handheld device.

palmOne to change name to Palm Inc.

[All this chittah-chattah] Because they've had such great success in the past with their names. I think people still refer to the entire category as the Palm Pilot (which could be a success, except that they dropped the Pilot name about 6 years ago), but then it became Palm, but then the company split into PalmOne and PalmSource (although I guess Palm was still an umbrella organization) - but really I was never able to tell which one was which, and mostly that just meant that...

PalmOne Seemingly Gets It Right”¦ Finally!

With the addition of a 4gig drive, it seems like a great little device to use as a PDA and file-transfer bucket. It’s even Mac-compatible (hey now!)

PalmOne spends $30 million to drop ”˜One’

[Oloop.org] The name change follows an agreement between PalmOne and PalmSource, the software company that was spun off from parent company Palm in October 2003. Following the spinoff, Palm changed its name to PalmOne and continued to concentrate on hardware.

[Geekzone: IT, mobility, wireless, handheld and pocket pc news] At the same time, palmOne announced that it has renewed the Palm OS license from PalmSource. As part of this new agreement, palmOne can continue to develop and market smartphones and other mobile devices based on the Palm OS through 2009. Under the terms of the agreement PalmSource will receive minimum royalty payments of US$148.5 million, which includes US$65 million for calendar years 2007 to 2009 subject to meeting certain development milestones.
