Palm, Microsoft in dead heat?

[Archived in Entry, Pda Pocket Pc, Pocket Pc Outlook, Pocket Pc Palm, Pocket Pc Pda]

Palm, Microsoft in dead heat? Keith Shaw on 2004/04/30:

„Gartner analyst Todd Kort said in a statement that many Palm OS users have delayed PDA purchases until devices come out with the new PalmSource OS, code-named "Cobalt." Microsoft bundling Outlook with every Pocket PC and the company's relationship with enterprise application developers have also led to the growth of the OS, Kort added.“

PalmSource and Microsoft in a Virtual Tie for No. 1 Worldwide PDA OS Market

PDA vendors shipped 1.11 million units with the Palm OS in the first quarter, down 21 percent from the first quarter of 2003, said Todd Kort, principal analyst with Gartner.“

Windows Mobilizes

„After rebranding itself and landing two handset manufacturer deals, Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system is generating a buzz in the burgeoning mobile enterprise market. With an obvious tie to the operating system that powers a majority of the desktop business computers worldwide, Windows Mobile OS is banking on the idea that business users want a common scheme for their wired and wireless systems. It has convinced partner Motorola of this idea, and others are starting to see it as a tactical advantage in Microsoft's OS war with competitors Palm OS and Symbian.“

Gartner bangs Microsoft drum again

„THE GARTNER Group is predicting that it's not Microsoft which should fear the Linux operating system, but the Unix vendors instead. That will obviously re-assure Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer “ they've been worrying needlessly about Linux, and should go for a relaxing holiday in Phuket rather than flying round the world cosying up to governments. According to a report in CXO Today, Gartner made a presentation in Mumbai yesterday which claimed RISC/Unix alliances will crumble in the face of a Lintel (Linux-Intel) onslaught by 2006.“

Daily Palm, views & rants updated multiple times a day

„Dear dear Dave...you crack me up!  I sure hope your baby inherits your wonderful sense of humor and your great writing skills.  I'm taking a quick peek on Palm Addict during my break, and don't have time to elaborate more fully on your "habit."  Suffice it to say, you are not alone.  I did a quick Google search for "waterproof PDA case" and came up with a few hits.  But it appears the cases are to protect your PDA when not in use.  That would defeat your whole purpose, right?  Some of the case descriptions mentioned "protection against the elements".  Some even will float. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)    There is a model with a lanyard that may work for your situation. I am determined to help you find the perfect case in the event you have a "mishap".  I owe it to you for all the wonderful Datebk tips you have been sharing.   And Jonathan, thank you for bringing up this topic!“

Daily Palm, views & rants updated multiple times a day

„The version I downloaded was updated on April 4th and includes the results from the Bahrain race on that day with the championship (drivers, constructors, tyre manufacturer) totals already in place. You can even set alarms to remind you that there is a Grand Prix that day. It's a very impressive piece of software especially when you discover that the author is a 16 year old, Rodrigo Marban from Mexico City.“
