LG debuts “ebook” concept laptop with OLED screen, liquid fuel

[Archived in Entry]

[FeedMoo, Tech News moOOed..] LG has just built such a concept machine, calling it the "ebook" (apparently no one told them about other eBooks?), which is powered by an awesome bubbly blue methyl alcohol fuel instead of a regular (read: boring) lithium-ion battery. The ebook has just won a "best of the best" Red Dot Award, a German prize for industrial design, and we're already drooling over its astonishing look and potentially awesome capabilities -- we want one, like, yesterday.

Some related posts from Technorati and Google.

http://news.naikmichel.com  Naik’s News: The bad news is that the IEEE is estimating a full 1.5 years before the protocol can be updated, but assures the frightened consumer base that all major notebook / battery manufacturers “have indicated strong interest to participate” — (via Cosmos)

ConsoleKalman.com | Kalman is King of the Console Games: While rummaging through the secret lairs of LG in Seoul, CNET UK caught a glimpse of the mysterious set, and while they weren't allowed to film / photograph it, they rendered a look-alike and assured us that the "bezel was made of compressed wood (derived from renewable forests) and finished in white water-based paint." Of course, no piece of AV equipment would be complete without a hint of silver, so LG added an aluminum trim to go along with the "lead-free / low-lead internal components." While the company wouldn't lend any clues to its future release date nor pricing information, we were told that it would eventually be "commercially available," but similar components will probably be found in more peon-friendly models (like the LG LX70) before too long. http://news.naikmichel.com  Naik’s News: Environmentalists take heart, as LG Electronics is out doing some good in the world, and its forthcoming 52-inch HD plasma provides that widescreen beauty you adore with a sense of tree-luvin’ satisfaction to boot. (via Cosmos)

Article33: The LCD-A175 series contains a trio of 17-inch models donning white, silver, and black enclosures, while the LCD-AD195 lineup offers up the same trifecta in a slightly larger form. Both displays sport a 1,280 x 1,024 resolution, 300cd/m2 brightness, 700:1 contrast ratio, 5-millisecond response time, VGA inputs, built-in power supplies, cable management systems, and dual 1.5-watt stereo speakers. (via Cosmos)

Engadget: the mobile XD engine is probably the mobile version of the picture/video processing engine used in LG televisions. Much like Toshiba's Meta engine and Samsung's DNIE. (via Cosmos)

The Edge of I-Hacked: delayed the release of the PRS-500 until November, meaning that surely people will be rushing the streets to get their paws on an eBook. However if you don’t want to wait until Sony gets its act together, you may want to check out Staretek’s “STAReBOOK e-book reader,” (via Cosmos)
