Geocaching

[Archived in Entry, Handheld Gps]

Geocaching jason on 2004/04/02:

„With a set of GPS coordinates in hand, the geocacher heads out to the general area of the cache and begins hiking and, when necessary, bushwhacking their way towards the cache site. Since most handheld GPS systems can only pinpoint a location within a certain number of meters (the author of the website's FAQ , for example, has a GSP model that brings him only within 20 feet or so of the coordinates), the geocacher has to search for the cache once they reach the general GSP coordinates.“

Catching up...

„My name is on the top of it in my dad's print, and the top was also colored red with a magic marker so that my brother and I could easily tell our tops apart. I'm not sure why I still have it in there, but I think it's a sort of connection to my childhood. I rarely take it out and mess around with it, but I always see it when I open the drawer.“

Geocaching

„Only two days after the end of Selective Availability, someone hid a logbook inside a container near Portland, OR and posted its GPS coordinates on the sci.geo.satellite-nav newsgroup. Just three days later, the container, called a "cache," was visited twice, the visits recorded in the logbook and online. From the immense curiosity, immediacy, and coolness factor that this generated, a high-tech hide-and-seek game was born: geocaching.“

Questioning

„First off Syn and I went Geocaching and brought her sister along for the ride. We found both of the caches we went hunting for. The geocaching festivities ended for the moment (because Syn had to go to work) and I went to a movie.“

Slurred Ramblings Of A Mistyped Youth.

„Y'know, the sort you get when you spend half a day Geocaching with some good buddies then go to meet even more good buddies for a pub lunch (this, obviously, entails the enquafflement of ale) then pop out from the pub to find just one more cache. The afternoon sun shines down upon four ever-so-slightly-tipsy... well, three ever-so-slightly-tipsy and one nominated-driver-sober...“
