Everyone.net launches push e-mail for palmOne Treo
[Archived in Entry]
[Geekzone: IT, mobility, wireless, handheld and pocket pc news] Everyone.net's new push e-mail capability uses IMAP email protocol and Treo client email software from ChatterEmail. It works with any of Everyone.net's Personal, Business and Mail Plus email packages which include IMAP, and is designed for individuals and small businesses without big IT budgets or technical staff.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Stodge] Review: PalmOne Treo 650 from Orange: I’ve been fooled into parting with cash for the latest upgrade; my crisp pounds exchanged for flaky plastic: I’ve grown so jaded with the category that I had the lowest expectations when I placed an order for the new PalmOne Treo 650 from Orange. It turns out that I was wrong to be so glum - the new Treo is one of the niftiest gadgets I’ve owned in a long time.
[Jeff Boulters Weblog] Essential Treo Stuff: That’s such ancient technology. The only problem is that SMS alerts on the treo don’t “nag” you. One alert is probably not enough to wake me up in the middle of the night, so TreoAlertMgr keeps beeping until I deal with it. This is NOT Anne’s favorite accessory.
[Marc Abramowitz] Cingular Wireless Xpress Mail Personal Edition: The way it works is that you download and install a Windows client program that run on a PC that is behind the firewall or that has access to your network through VPN or ssh port forward (I installed the program on a home PC that has access to my IMAP server through an ssh port forward). This program pulls email from Exchange, Domino, GroupWise, POP, IMAP, etc… and then sends it, encrypted, to a Cingular server (note that if you’re paranoid about the security of your data, you might want to investigate a bit more and find out about the quality of the encryption). Now your phone can easily get at it through the Xpress Mail Palm program (as far as I can tell, you must use this program - I don’t think you can use another program like VersaMail, Snapper, or Chatter). Another feature gives you Web access to all of the above at https://xpressmail.cingular.com/subscriber.

[eMobile-News.com] palmOne LifeDrive mobile manager: With a 4 GB hard drive and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, you can easily carry files from your desktop computer, 300 songs, 2.5 hours of video, vacation photos, and more. Includes support for POP, IMAP and Exchange email accounts, plus onboard voice recorder, MP3 player, and photo viewer.
[Blogs.osafoundation.org] Mitch Kapor's Weblog: Treo 600: I have an iMac running OS 10.3.4 and just got the Treo 600 with Verizon. However when I tried to install I get the error message "sorry, the operation could not be completed due to a system error:(access denied)" - I cannot get help from PalmOne because the Treo is supported directly by the wireless vendors (Verizon, Sprint, AT&T etc...); when I tried to get help from Verizon Wireless I was informed that they don't support the Mac platform and sorry. And that was it...:(
[Office.weblogsinc.com] I finally broke down and got a Treo 650 - The Office Weblog ...: I’ll try to take a few shots with the camera to see how that works (my expectations are low based on what I’ve seen on other sites). Of course the very first thing I did was subscribe to a number of Treo-related blogs so I can learn from those who have gone before me. My favorites so far? Palmsolo and Treonauts - hands down. Great writing, excellent advice and extensive colections of posts to read through.
[Blogs.msdn.com] Omar Shahine's WebLog : Treo 650: The Treo has a better screen with more resolution (I can see more of the email), is smaller, and likely does not have the issues making and receiving phone calls that the Windows devices do. My wife's Treo has never said "Unable to answer call". I can't believe that there is even an error string in the Windows Mobile OS for that. For a while now I was thinking the Motorola MPX was going to solve all my needs, but that device is vaporware.
[Blog.treonauts.com] Treonauts | Dedicated to your Treo 650 & 600. The Perfect All-In ...: That said you can nicely control both the number of messages downloaded, the amount of those messages delivered (in lines) and also control deletion status. The key feature POP3 clients have been missing is the core strength of Chatter and that is the asynchronous nature of how it works. Running asynchronously means your email can be delivered while in the background of other apps and even with the screen fully off. You can sync your accounts on a set interval (30 min by default, but whatever you like) and know your mail will simply be waiting for you to read it.
[Blog.treonauts.com] Treonauts | Dedicated to your Treo 650 & 600. The Perfect All-In ...: Unfortunately PalmOne is not yet up to this task because 1) I'm not sure that the company is really looking at this as the $500 price tag means that [added 15.07] the Treo 600 is primarily positioned at business people and 2) the overall 'system' (see my rule below) to deliver entertainment content to the Treo is _extremely_ complex which currently limits its appeal to a wider audience. [Please note that in the UK wireless operator Orange offers the Treo 600 to its users for some $200 with a 12 month contract and this does not appear to have had a massive impact on sales so the issue of marketing and positioning remains a valid one.]
